How entries are made

This page sets out how the eighteen entries on Zunoas were written, what was left out of them and how to report an error. It is deliberately short, because the method itself is simple.

How the hotels were chosen

Four sections were fixed first: ice, capsule, art and casino hotels. Hotels were then selected to fill them from properties that are open and that publish enough about themselves to be described without guesswork. Nothing was chosen for being remarkable, and no hotel is compared with another anywhere on this site.

Which sources are used

Each entry rests first on what the hotel publishes: its own site, its own descriptions of rooms and facilities. That material is checked against mapping services for location and against press coverage where it exists. Where two sources disagree, the entry keeps only what both support.

What is not here

There are no prices, no star classifications, no room counts, no guest reviews and no booking arrangements. There are no partner links of any kind. Weather, availability and access are never promised, because none of them can be. Where a fact could not be confirmed, the sentence was rewritten rather than hedged.

How to read the winter section

Structures of snow and ice exist for one winter season. They are built from the ground each year, they melt, and the next year's building is a different one. Heated glass shelters that stand on some of the same sites are conventional buildings and are named as such in the entries. Season dates are set by each operator and change with the cold, so they are not printed here; ask the hotel.

What the four index groups mean

The index on the home page groups the eighteen buildings by the age of the structure, taken from published sources, rather than by the year a hotel opened under its present name. Where no year is published, a building sits in the group that is true without assumption and no year appears in its text. Snow and ice structures form their own group. Two addresses in the capsule section are not capsules at all but houses of small repeated rooms, and their entries say so in the first paragraph.
